Hastings WD500 VIP C4


WD500 was duly the first C4 [ViP] aircraft

Hi chaps

 

Me again.another special Hastings arrived at Mauripur with an AOC's inspection

 

WD500 VIP .One of the inspection team was Johnny Johnson the BofB Spitfire pilot

 

The aircraft was fitted with hydraulic steps.In 1996 I had an article printed in Flypast

 

and one of the photos featured in the article was of this Hastings all bright and shiney.

Re the above; attached photos of WD500 in October 1955 along with a model I had made for me by Nice Aeroplanes;it has an 18" wingspan

Hi Chaps

Just a bit more; the Canberra you can see behind the Hastings is the 617 Sqdn A/craft that pranged on landing with a full fuel load still on iIt was a write off
and it went for scrap to local dealers from Karachi

From my diaries:

17th February 1965 El Adem: The Chief of the Imperial General Staff (CIGS) of the RAF, AVM Sir Augustus Walker, made an inspection of the station arriving on VIP Hastings WD500.
