A Hastings C1 that hit the Mediterranean and lived to tell the tale

I have had a lot of correspondence over the years on this incident, the aircraft number is unknown [possibly TG575 that crashed at El Adem??]

To start the thread I will leave a picture and a silhouette on how close this came to disaster [thanks to Wikipedia for the use of the silhouette], the tips of the inboard propeller blades are peeled back like bananas as the aircraft touched the water, the silhouette shows why only two props were affected due to the slightly lower level of the inners to the outers

Much more on this topic to follow

Photo with thanks by Tony King

I am reliably informed by Nigel Bean who has measured the clearance of the Hastings prop tips from the 6 o'clock position to the ground, which is showing how close this Hastings nearly came to be number three with a watery grave

On outer engine distance from prop tip in Central lower position is 33 inches from tip to ground.

On inner the distance is 28 inches tip to ground.
