'Special' Flights

I have no experience or evidence that 'Special Flights' existed regarding Hastings, so apart from 'The Squirrel Squadron' of 51 Sqn can anyone enlighten me on this 'rumour' that I have heard on more than one occasion, I am aware that one of the Colerne Squadrons, either 24 or 36 carried 'special cargo' to Edinburgh Field in Australia [UAH]

I flew many air miles on Hastings TG530 of 51 Sqdn. At no times, to my knowledge were we carrying any 'special cargo'. Our Comet a/c - when travelling to oversea RAF Stations or other country Air Force Bases - were supposedly involved in the calibration of ILS and other associated airfield installations. The term to use, as I understand it, is Secret Squirrel. I don't recall it ever being referred to as "The Secret Squirrel Squadron."

I do remember that our private cars had a Day Glow Question Mark in the rear window though. I have a photograph showing one on the back of one of my cars - somewhere.

The following week he was transferred from Mombasa to The Seychelles aboard a British frigate
