On my research on the HP Hastings over the years there have been a number of accidents where no accident record card can be found at either The Air Historical Branch [AHB] or The RAF Museum at Hendon, here are some examples
TG603 16/06/1952 TG603 of 99 Squadron NO ACCIDENT RECORD CARD EXISTS. I have since received information that this aircraft was 'Blown Off the Runway' at RAF Luqa, Malta and that all survived, understand that Elevator Bolts could have sheared off.
WD478 crashed at Strubby/Manby on take off on 19th March, the Hastings was seen to lift off, stall and dived into the ground, sadly 3 died whilst 5 others survived, this aircraft had only been off the production line 6 days earlier. No accident record exists.
Crashed on Take-off at RAF Topcliffe on 14.03.1952
14/03/52 TG562 RAF Topcliffe 242 OCU destroyed on take-off, No record card exists
I have it on record, but do not remember from where, that this aircraft was being operated by 242 OCU based at Dishforth on the date it was involved in the accident, possibly home base was recorded by mistake rather than where the accident actually took place. The record I have is that it crashed on takeoff at Al Fayid 14/3/52 when carrying two Vampire Jet engines being returned to the UK for repair, no casualties among the crew of four, the captain was F/Lt Pryzlucki. I have seen poor photographs of it next to a hangar on its belly with undercarriage retracted and the propellers bent but the aircraft otherwise intact, almost as if the u/c was retracted on start up.
