Page 43 Hastings and Hermes book there is a Hastings shown with a Heavy Storage Beam, I actually flew in Hastings TG531 as an ATC Cadet at Lyneham on 6th April 1955 with two jeeps slung under, these were dropped by parachute from the beam over Watchfield. I recall the Hastings 'lifting up' seemingly when the jeeps were jettisoned. Other than that of the hundreds of Hastings, flown in/seen and worked on that is the only time I have seen this assembly used

I have recently read that the Hastings became sluggish and unstable when Jeeps were fitted under the beam and was not popular with aircrews [FlypastDecember 1986], difficult to maintain airspeed with Hastings in formation [Operation Musketeer] due to drag
Yes - the Hastings did seem to lift as the jeeps fell away. We used to go over to RAF Abingdon to drop trainee paratroopers - we were given the chance to jump ourselves but why would you leave a perfectly good aircraft to swing on the end of a parachute?
Take off with the jeeps underneath seemed longer and we were always pleased when we dropped them.
